About Colorado Springs in the summer

Colorado Springs in the summer?
My parent's boss lives in Colorado during the summer so we're also going there for the summer. My parents are going to be working most of the time Monday through Friday and I need something to do while they are at work. I don't know ANY body there nor have I been there before and I don't drive yet so if you can list some places I can take the bus to go to. I'm seventeen turning eighteen this August so I want to know where I can go to spend my 18th birthday as well. I'm pretty sure my parents want to go to places during the weekends so don't list just places where I can take the bus in. List cities that are an hour away where we can visit some awesome places. I know there are a lot of scenery for me to explore and I'd love to do a lot of that but my concern are the wild animals around. Is there a BIG chance that I'll come across snakes because I am VERY scared of them, or any other animal I should be afraid of while walking around in Colorado Springs? Give me anything else that I need to know about summer time in Colorado Springs as well, thank you!

You will LOVE Colorado Springs. If you like the outdoors, there are many great parks right in the city where you can hike ..and on the weekends your family can go to many of the great stat e and natonal parks in the state. Garden of the gods is a great place to walk and hike in the city. You can go to the main bus station downtown and get a bus map. You may want to join the YMCA...they have several branches around town and lots of activities. You are very unlikely to see any snakes uness you go sown to creek and actively look for them...I lived in Springs for 30 years and the only snakes I saw were the ones my kids loved to bring home from their adventures at the nearest creek! There are quite a few public swimming pools in Coloado Springs. 1st site below has lots of good info for you. On weekends you and your family can visit Denver...tons of things to do there...great zoo ( Colorado Springs has one too) , fantastic Museums, Rockies baseball, Water World, Elitches amusement park and water park Rocky Mountain National Park is amazing and only less than 2 hrs away. Hope you have a great summer.

Hey, I live here, its pretty cool :) You must visit Garden of the Gods, its breathtaking. A few of the trails there are sidewalks, so I highly doubt you will be running into any snakes. I have ridden the bus once. I don't really know much about the buses, but I do know if that is going to be how you are getting around, you will be walking quite a bit. If you are a girl (sorry, I dont want to assume anything) there is a lot of shopping you can do! It is'nt the best, but it is a lot of fun. Try the brirgate mall, its strip mall. The citidal is another good mall. Also you should visit old colorado city, it is amazing! try and find the ice cream shop, it is great in the summer! With your parents, head up to denver, it is great! there are museums, amusment parks, you might find some sporting event going on up there sometime, or maybe a concert. To be honest, I find a lot of those things a little boring unless I am with a friend. If i were you, I would try and get a friend to come with you! just a suggestion, you dont HAVE to do that, but it does get a little boring down here.

About Would my plan for a Disney/Universal vacation work

Would my plan for a Disney/Universal vacation work?
My family and I are going to Disney next year. We're going to stay at Colorado Springs. We're planning on getting an early flight to Orlando so we get there at around 10 AM. Then we're planning to rent a car at the airport and drive it to Universal with our luggage still in it and spend the day doing both of the parks there. Then, at the end of the day, we're going to drive the car back to the airport and board the next Disney Magical Express bus that comes that will take us to Disney for the rest of our vacation. Would this work or is there something wrong with it?

It's a lot of stuff packed into your first day there. Your whole family is going to be so tired!
2 :
it woould work perfectly fine but the thing you need to look out for is the distance of everything the timeing away from everything through all transportation and how much time you spend at each place.
3 :
Yeah, but the hotel is called the CORONADO Springs. You wouldn't want to drive around all night looking for the wrong hotel... But I would check in to the hotel first, because if your going to go to two parks in one day you'll be out pretty late, and it would be easier to come back with your luggage there instead of having to unload it then. And it would suck to unload it out of the bus at like midnight! But overall it sounds like a pretty good plan. Have fun in Disney World! I was there in June, and it was fun. In fact I stayed at the same hotel!

there is nothing wrong with your plan it would work quite well [i have done it myself]. depending on when you want to arrive at universal, you might want to get there early [universal has quite a bit of rides]. i have stayed at the CORONADO springs before and it was somewhat busy. it took me about a half hour to check in. universal is not that far away from disney, but it is a bit of distance away. depending on how long you are staying there on vacation i recommend 2 days at universal, and the rest of the vacation at disney and in the hotel.

Visiting Orlando, Florida is an incredible vacation experience for both children and parents alike. Most parents actually recall their childhoods when they visit Walt Disney World. The weather is fantastic year round, the summer months can be a bit warm and humid but so is the rest of the United States during that time. Basically 9 or 10 perfect weather months makes Florida the ideal destination for your next family Orlando vacation. Orlando, Florida plays host to a wide variety of incredible tourist attractions, including the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando. Walt Disney World resort is the largest attraction and probably the most visited of three, it includes; Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, and Downtown Disney. SeaWorld Orlando is a large water themed park that features several zoological and marine animal exhibits as well as an amusement park with roller coasters and water rides. Universal Studio's Orlando, like Disney, is a giant themed amusement park. Universal Studios Florida includes; CityWalk, and the Islands of Adventure theme park. In addition to the incredible theme parks and attractions, Orlando has many fantastic hotels and resorts along with delectable restaurants. Most resorts have large beautiful swimming pools to enjoy in the afternoon and most provide free parking. Have fun and enjoy your next Orlando vacation.

About Going to Colorado. How can I prepare for the drastic change in altitude

Going to Colorado. How can I prepare for the drastic change in altitude?
I'm going to Colorado Springs (6,000+ ft. above sea level) in 2 weeks for an intense 4 day camp at the Air Force Academy. I, however, live in the Bay Area, where the highest altitude is only 400 ft. I work out fairly frequently, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to prepare physically, besides run my butt off.

drink a bunch of water so you wont get altitude sickness maybe try some breathing exercises since the air is thinner
2 :
Just keep working out like normal and drink plenty of water when you get there. You'll be fine, if you are working out while you are there you will notice the difference but it won't be all that bad.
