About What are the good neighborhoods to move to in Colorado Springs CO

What are the good neighborhoods to move to in Colorado Springs CO?
My husband and I are moving to Colorado Springs CO. We want to know what are the good neighborhoods to move to. Also, I am a teacher and would like to know what high schools I should apply to work at. Thank you for your time.

First, congrats to moving one of the most beautiful cities in U.S. Colorado Springs was nominated as #1 city with mid-size city about 3 years ago... If you prefer new town with medium to high income area, the 1st choice would be Wolf Ranch. It is located to next to the Peterson Air force base, and I've heard lots of military family is finding home there.. It's pretty new town, so very clean and nice house and of course low crime area. Especially family with no kids prefer mid size house that could range from 200k. Above that area, there is still developing area called Cordera where a brand new house of famous builder such as Keller and Classic homes are being located. If you want a bit settled and bigger house (not always necessary but they do have choices), then definitely go up to Pine Creek area. The zip code is 80920. But all of above areas are within Academy School District 20, which has great school system in the town. For the school list of District 20, go to www.asd20.org. Good luck!

There aren't necessarily "bad" neighborhoods in Colorado Springs, just different. Ages of homes range from over 100 years to brand new. On the north end of town (above Woodmen Rd), you'll generally find newer homes, in school district 20 which is very well regarded. The east side of town (east of Powers Blvd.) is generally newer, the neighborhoods are packed in tighter, but has great accessibility to shops and restaurants. Pine Creek is very nice, but more expensive than other neighborhoods surrounding it. It also has a very strict homeowners association which many of my friends find borderline offensive. School District 20 is the way to go. District 11 is the largest, but is having many funding problems currently and District 49 (in the east area of town) is not as well regarded. Is Colorado Springs a good place to raise a family?
I live in the Chicago area and I am sick of the scene.It's loud,expensive and crime ridden. I want to move to a place where I can raise my family in a decent area and afford it. I am in love with Colorado Springs, However I wanted to hear from current or former residents as to how it really is. I would be able to transfer my job, my husband would have to find new work. He is in security management as well as great with computers.Any thoughts?

I lived in the Springs for seven years. Colorado Springs is ultra-conservative. It has MANY military families because of Petersen AFB and Fort Carson. It is home to Focus on the Family and many other Christian ministries. It is approximately 80-85% Republican. If that's your cup of tea, then you'll love it. If you're a Democrat, you'll hate it. If you want a similar sort of place that's more balanced, go for Denver; if you want a place that's heavily Democratic, go to Boulder. Fort Collins, north of Denver, is a very nice place to live; it's a university town, and also tends toward the middle of the road, politically speaking. Pueblo is 2000 feet lower in elevation, and has a large and active Hispanic population. Most of the tech jobs are in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins. Most of the jobs in Colorado Springs center around the military; many require a security clearance, and many others simply aren't available to civilians.

it is definetly a millitary area. I think it depends where you want to live in colorado springs. If you want to live up in the little gated communities, i'ts great. If you want to live where the houses aren't the sizes of 11 football feilds, then it probably isn't that great because there are alot of gangs here. (they just kind of stay in their own areas) BUT one thing I do like about colorado springs is that their school systems are pretty good. and if you are a middle class family, you could probably survive here. good luck!

About hair in Colorado Springs

Hair in Colorado Springs?
I have been a hairdresser since 2002. I recently took a year off because i wasnt sure it was what i was wanting to do since I was moving around a bit with my husband in the army. I am now in Colorado Springs, and I am going to start doing hair again. Does anyone know any good salons in Colorado Springs? I want to work somewhere comfortable so I can take my time getting back into the swing of things.

Have you checked out the availability of getting your license changed.........my girlfriend researched getting her CO license with her WI hours and the hours were fine, but it seemed they couldn't guarantee her a CO license. I'm not really sure what the deal was all I know is that it seemed to be a real pain in the rear!! Good luck to you finding the perfect salon, sorry I couldn't help you out with suggestions!!!

I got me hair cut at Inspirations for many years....Kim was a partner at the time and they always had great people there. They were on the corner of Union and Academy. They are worth checking in to :) Best of Luck. Phil

I work for the Sky Sox Baseball Club (AAA affiliate to the Colorado Rockies). I am the Director of Group Sales and am looking for the largest group leads in Colorado Springs. Please point me in the right direction to find the highest employed Colorado Springs companies, the largest social, community and civic groups and most customer service friendly realtor groups, financial institutions, law firms, accounting firms and any other industries that often independently contract their sales representatives.

Live in Colorado Springs and makes 65 mile trip to Denver for work. Snow tires on FWD sedan or AWD SUV/Sedan?
Not sure if I should trade my FWD Saturn Ion 3, or Purchase a AWD SUV/Sedan? I could save some money and just purchase studded tires/winter tires, or get into another vehicle payment and switch to a heavyier AWD SUV/Sedan (Durango or Legacy)

My coworker makes this same commute to Denver also. You just need snow tires. No need for another car payment.

Snow tires will do fine for the drive. I suggest keeping a bag of kitty litter in the back during winter, it is great if you do happen to get stuck.
