About Moving to Colorado Springs

Moving to Colorado Springs. [Only people from Colorado please]?
Hello, I will be moving from The Netherlands to Colorado Springs in December, I'm 19 years old. And I have a question. OK, well when I get there.. How does it work with getting my drivers license? What do I all have to do to get it? I'm only allowed to come 30 days prior my course starts at the college. I will be on a F-1 Visa... Is there any difference between me and a US Citizen? I believe I have to show my visa and stuff, which will not be a problem. And how can I meet already people from there? I would like to meet some people before I move. Thanks.

You will need to live in Colorado for 90 days to become a Colorado resident. You cannot get a Colorado drivers License before that time. However students are exempted from needing to get a Colorado license...though I believe you can get one if desired. You will have plenty of time , after you get there to ask a fellow student to take you to one of the drivers license offices in town and ASK what you should do. Also, the foreign students office at the college can advise you on this. You will LOVE Colorado Springs. Hope you have a great time.

About Do you think working at a sign shop is good experience for an entry level graphic design work

Do you think working at a sign shop is good experience for an entry level graphic design work?
I would be laying out the signs and reproducing logos. scanning and be involved in the printing and production. Also some vehicle wraps. There does not seem to be all that many entry level opportunities in Colorado Springs, but this seems less creative although I was getting more freelance work. I am a career changer so I don't have as much time as a younger person. Thank you for any thoughts on this.

I think it is definitely related to your field. Perhaps you'll learn a few things you didn't know about on this end of the business. It helps to be knowledgeable in all areas of your chosen profession. Besides, you may learn of new opening or hear more being somewhere that deals with that type of clientele. You're definitely on the right track!

I answer this as someone who founded a large advertising agency, and hired a number of graphic designers over the years. Your experience working in a sign shop has limited appeal to a potential employer in a graphic design firm. In a place where the major output is creative work -- brochures, posters, ads, logos, letterheads, your experience in the sign shop is more "printing and production" than creating new pieces. Colorado Springs has a number of good graphic design firms. If your goal is to work for one of them, you need to have a very broad portfolio of work to show, and you won't impress them by showing them your work from a sign shop. Suggestion: since your phrasing ("I would be ...") indicates that you aren't employed there yet, I advise you to look elsewhere for a job. Since you "don't have as much time as a younger person," don't waste weeks or months in a place that won't advance your career. Good luck.

About Moving to Colorado Springs - Apartments

Moving to Colorado Springs - Apartments?
I am 22 years old and am graduating from Iowa State in May and have a job lined up in Colorado Springs with the Department of the Airforce at the Peterson AFB. I am originally from Illinois and have never been to Colorado Springs. Is there a nice/more fun area in the city that I should be looking into moving to? I want to be near where I am going to work, but also would like to be in an urban area with people my age. I am willing to pay up to $600 a month for a 1 bed, 1 bath apartment. Any suggestions on some apartment complexes or areas of Colorado Springs I should live? Thanks in advance for any input!!

I live in a great complex and it is about 5 miles from the Air Force Academy. The complex is called Grand River Canyon Apartments and it is located in the North region of Colorado Springs. I have a 1bed/1bath and I pay $606/month; I've lived there for about a year and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy Colorado Springs :)

About Colorado Springs in the summer

Colorado Springs in the summer?
My parent's boss lives in Colorado during the summer so we're also going there for the summer. My parents are going to be working most of the time Monday through Friday and I need something to do while they are at work. I don't know ANY body there nor have I been there before and I don't drive yet so if you can list some places I can take the bus to go to. I'm seventeen turning eighteen this August so I want to know where I can go to spend my 18th birthday as well. I'm pretty sure my parents want to go to places during the weekends so don't list just places where I can take the bus in. List cities that are an hour away where we can visit some awesome places. I know there are a lot of scenery for me to explore and I'd love to do a lot of that but my concern are the wild animals around. Is there a BIG chance that I'll come across snakes because I am VERY scared of them, or any other animal I should be afraid of while walking around in Colorado Springs? Give me anything else that I need to know about summer time in Colorado Springs as well, thank you!

You will LOVE Colorado Springs. If you like the outdoors, there are many great parks right in the city where you can hike ..and on the weekends your family can go to many of the great stat e and natonal parks in the state. Garden of the gods is a great place to walk and hike in the city. You can go to the main bus station downtown and get a bus map. You may want to join the YMCA...they have several branches around town and lots of activities. You are very unlikely to see any snakes uness you go sown to creek and actively look for them...I lived in Springs for 30 years and the only snakes I saw were the ones my kids loved to bring home from their adventures at the nearest creek! There are quite a few public swimming pools in Coloado Springs. 1st site below has lots of good info for you. On weekends you and your family can visit Denver...tons of things to do there...great zoo ( Colorado Springs has one too) , fantastic Museums, Rockies baseball, Water World, Elitches amusement park and water park Rocky Mountain National Park is amazing and only less than 2 hrs away. Hope you have a great summer.

Hey, I live here, its pretty cool :) You must visit Garden of the Gods, its breathtaking. A few of the trails there are sidewalks, so I highly doubt you will be running into any snakes. I have ridden the bus once. I don't really know much about the buses, but I do know if that is going to be how you are getting around, you will be walking quite a bit. If you are a girl (sorry, I dont want to assume anything) there is a lot of shopping you can do! It is'nt the best, but it is a lot of fun. Try the brirgate mall, its strip mall. The citidal is another good mall. Also you should visit old colorado city, it is amazing! try and find the ice cream shop, it is great in the summer! With your parents, head up to denver, it is great! there are museums, amusment parks, you might find some sporting event going on up there sometime, or maybe a concert. To be honest, I find a lot of those things a little boring unless I am with a friend. If i were you, I would try and get a friend to come with you! just a suggestion, you dont HAVE to do that, but it does get a little boring down here.
