if you are in colorado you might try panning for gold in your backyard. Gold miners make good money, if you're lucky you might even make more money than both your parents.
2 :
I worked at the movie theater when I was your age. Fun, got paid, and got to see unlimited free movies. Grocerie store sackers hire sometimes at 15. Baskin Robins, starts at 14, that was my first job. That was fun also, and my family loved the ice cream I brought home. Hostess at a retaurant, sometimes they hire at 15.
3 :
My daughter-in-law's sister (also 15) just got a job at a nursing home in our area (a really ritzy one -- rich old people) and she's going to be a server....which I think is a pretty good FIRST job!!

I work at KFC and my boss never lets me have breaks.?
I work at a KFC in Colorado Springs and my boss never lets me have breaks even when i work from opening time, 8 am, to closing time, 11 pm. Any tips?

That is illegal in UK and I'm pretty sure it's illegal where you are too. You should check your employee handbook or call head office.
2 :
Well its bl!!dy KFC of coarse your not going to get any breaks, just leave u dont deserve the right to work there.
3 :
legally you should be alound a barke otherwise KFC could get into alot of trouble
4 :
Eat as much food as you want while working. My Dairy Queen boss did the same thing to me, so I took it upon myself to collect the money via food. I ate food whenever I felt like it and never paid for it.
5 :
In Colorado, you are legally entitled to a 30 minute, uninterrupted duty free unpaid break. you are also entitled to a 10 min break every 4 hours. If your boss isn't adhering to the law, contact the Colorado Dept. of Labor and Employment. Here's the website with break information: http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/CDLE-LaborLaws/CDLE/1248095305420. Show this to your boss to let him know that you are aware of your rights. Additionally, there should be a labor poster displayed in your work site that talks about this as well.
6 :
It is illegal for him to withhold breaks. You are suppose to get a lunch break for an 8 hour shift and you are doing more. I would talk to a district manager. Here is where you can also contact someone higher up:http://www.kfc.com/contact/

Where are the indoor basketball courts near the Stetson Hills area of Colorado Springs?
When I was growing up in North Carolina, the local public school's gym was open to the public in the evenings. This was awesome for working out and shooting hoops to stay in shape. Is this available in the Stetson Hills area - or what fitness centers/gyms have indoor courts?

Did you mean this? Stetson, 4870 Jedediah Smith Rd Or you can try this: it's near a school: Van Diest, 1520 S. Chelton Rd. (Chelton Rd. and Verde Dr.)

Thanks Tim, but I am looking for Indoor not Outdoor courts. Like in a GYM or just a half court like at some fitness centers. I know most YMCA's have them, but are there any others in the Stetson Hills area?

About Clubs for married young adults without children, in Colorado Springs

Clubs for married young adults without children, in Colorado Springs?
I am looking for clubs and groups to join. My husband is in the military and we now live in colorado springs, I lack a social life becuse I dont know anyone here. I am 22 and the individuals I work with are all a bit older and have children. I want to get to know more people my age, and individuals that do not have children. I dont want to join of the military spouses clubs, for an entire host of reasons. Major reason being I dont want everything my club is invovled in to focus on the military. Any ideas on where to begin looking or on what kind of clubs are out there?

Do you live on base? I lived on base out there and there was a lot of drama, BUT I had a huge support system there and people that would drop anything to help you out. I think you should rethink the military spouses clubs. I didn't join any but I was working full time on base at the hospital. I really enjoyed living there. Don't worry, you'll find something.
2 :
When I lived down there 3-4 years ago, it seemed like most of the clubs were near Tejon St & Pikes Peak Ave downtown. It may have changed since then. There are also a few clubs scattered up and down Academy Blvd that tend to be themed e.g. classic rock, or 60s music, etc. Hope this gives you an idea of where to start looking. I knew a lot of people who would go to Denver if they were looking for a serious night on the town.

Denver has become very crowded and is not the nice city it once was. I would go with CS as it is smaller yet still large enough to find work. The line of work you are in is in great demand. I have a friend that has done it for years. She started with a temp service that would put her with different doctors. She eventually found an office she really enjoyed and got a permanent position there. Maybe you can find a similar temp service in CS and get paid while you look for a full time Dentist's office.

Honnen Ice Arena, located on the Colorado College campus, is really friendly and they have private coaches, learn-to-skate lessons, freestyle sessions, and public sessions. There's also World Arena which is home to Olympic Athlete Rachael Flatt, and they have the private coaches, learn-to-skate classes, TONS of freestyle sessions, and public sessions. The only other one I can think of is Sertich Ice Arena which is near the Olympic Training Center, they also have the same things as World and Honnen.

Looking for a new artist in Colorado Springs, CO?
After years of work, and pimping his sight and shop to hundreds of people. Even having people check him out on YA, my artist and I have had a parting of ways. I am in the market for a new artist and a new piece. Most of my stuff is black and gray, animal portraits. Shop recommendations please. I have a lot of contacts in the tattoo scene here in the springs, but they all seem to be at each other throats over one thing or another and I am looking to stay out of the drama, so I won't be seeing any of my "friends" for work anytime soon.

About Denver or Colorado Springs or Boulder

Denver or Colorado Springs or Boulder?
I am planning on making a big move from lil ole Mississippi to Colorado for a more exciting adventurous life for my family and me. We are in our 20's with a lil child age 7. I will to have to work in a hospital or some kind of reference lab (Medical Laboratory Tech). I am looking for someplace that has really nice schools, affordable apartments, possibly near an university or somewhat close, nice restaurants, and places normal young adults hang out at. What are the best areas for what I am looking for? Thanks.
Denver - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
With the current rate in unemployment you really should be sending out resume's ahead of your move. Especially with a child. You could be looking for a job for well over a year. If either of you smoke, Boulder is a completely smoke free city You can be arrested smoking in your house ( if someone sees smoke coming from your window and reports you) or car. Denver is innudated with people + illegals, so the best area would be in a surrounding suburb Of the 3 Colorado Springs is the best choice, IMO I used to love Boulder--way back in time--- but its grown tremendously.. You need to research and research. You have a family to consider. Its snowed there this past week, so you dont want to be ( as they say) left out in the cold. Search on Yahoo for the (city name) Hospitals. See if they have a Help needed list or a personnel address and start making contacts Jobs arent easy to get anywhere now, if youve not looked for one lately.
2 :
denver is your best all around choice boulder is full of college, kids, hippies and yuppies colorado springs is rather boring
3 :
One other town to consider is Fort Collins. It meets your requirement, with the exception of being a bit on the expensive side. That being said, Boulder will be much more expensive than Ft. Collins. Ft. Collins, due to repeatedly being picked as the top place to live by Money Magazine has become a desirable place to live. Poudre Valley Hospital is always expanding, and south of Ft. Collins, near Loveland is the brand new trauma center that serves the entire region (eastern CO, WY, NE etc..). Ft Collins regularly updates and expands their schools. Colorado State University is in FC, and has in my opinion some great restaurants.
4 :
To be honest with you, you are not going to get all you want in one place.Im not that sure about Col. Springs I do know that it is a army town there is Fort Carson and the air force academy so I hear it is high to live there. As for Boulder that is also a nice town but again it is very high to live there but you do have the University of Boulder and the people are a little more conservative than in Denver but there are young people there. And now Denver we do have the university of Denver Medical Center and we have National Jewish Hospital. The area around these hospitals are not the greatest so you would have to find housing in a different area but that is not bad. There are so many sub divisions in denver but don't live in Denver more problems there than in the subs. I hope I helped you out some and I hope you like it in Co. and I hope you like the snow in the winter and the wind and skiing, And the nice weather in the fall, summer, and the spring.
5 :
I would recommend Colorado Springs. I live only about an hour away, and I love visiting! It isn't too big, and it isn't too small. There are wonderful public and private schools for children to go to. The traffic is usually not horrible. But the best part is, there is so much to do! List of activities in Colorado Springs: -Flying W Ranch Gives you a real feel of the west! -Seven Falls 7 beautiful waterfalls that cascade down a gorgeous mountain! -Garden of the Gods The famous red rocks of Colorado in amazing formations! -Cave of the Winds Explore mysterious (but safe) caves! Those are only a few of Colorado Springs' attractions. You would definitely love it there. There are a few pretty big colleges as well. And the real estate isn't too bad either! I'm sure you could find a great place to live there!
6 :
I also put in my word for Colorado Springs- it doesnt have a huge university (couple smaller ones including Colorado College and UC-CS), but several hospitals including Memorial and Baptist which is a new hospital (country renowned and featured in sports illustrated believe it or not haha!). Its far from boring, and no its not too expensive compared to the other three (it has its areas, yes). Also, consider Loveland as well. IMO, Ft. Collins was overrated- the school was one of the ugliest I have ever seen in my life- ive been to 4 as a student and also been on many other campuses. But ya, all three have pros and cons to weigh.
7 :
I would choose an area right outside of Denver. I live in a little town called Conifer, its right outside of Denver and I love it. There are less crimes and a better feel. Plus there are many suburbs where you are only a couple minutes from the city.
8 :
Stay AWAY from Colorado Springs! The schools are terrible, the universities are all run by the Baptists, and the town is VERY conservative! If you LIKE being told you're gonna burn in Hell every time you turn around, you might like it. But if you aren't into going to church all the time, stay clear! Great place to visit...wouldn't live there on a bet! Denver, near the Hospital, on Colorado Blvd. (Denver Hospital?) or up the Boulevard a bit to National Jewish (best Lung disorder hospital in the country)...there's nice neigborhoods to the East of the Blvd., with a fairly new flavor, and some really pretty older (early 1900s) neighborhoods to the West...Capitol Hill, and the like...really good shopping, there, too. There are some really interesting "planned neighborhoods" going up, too, where you don't really own your own land...but you have houses...sort of like the condo concept...more towards downtown and West. LoDo is really posh for young adults. And University of Denver is to the south (lots of good family homes in that area); Auraria Campus (three schools in one location) near LoDo, Regis (Jesuit school) in the North. Good schools? Don't do Public in the city district...if you want to live in the city, you want to send the kids to private schools. Jefferson County (in the Western suburbs) has the best schools. Boulder? Kinda more young...not AS good for kids, but a really good University. Fun thing about the Front Range...Denver is pretty conservative/middle of the road. Springs is REALLY conservative/right wing. Boulder is the polar opposite, being REALLY liberal/left wing. Boulder schools, you have to be careful...some are better than others.
9 :
Denver is a pretty large, diverse area. You can choose a rich neighborhood or a poor one, with horrible schools or great ones. I would personally suggest moving near Regis University. I have lived about 4 blocks away from Regis my entire life, I've never noticed any bizarre college behavior. There are amazing restaurants and entertainment spots. Also in this area, since the home school for high school students is not quite up to par, the district is required to provide free transportation to your student so that they can attend a better school.

to be honest you need a permit to change about anything (im a plumber by trade and in southern California you need a permit to change something as simple as a p-trap under a sink.... seriously) .... but on stuff like that its pretty much safe and a no brainier..... just be careful and test the outlets you wanna change before you take them apart and rewire them the same exact way

you should not need a permit, however to be on the safe side it may not hurt to call your local building inspector to find out

I was home schooled at that age! 1. you have the internet obviously use it to learn a skill for a future career. For instance I knew web design when I was 11 and home schooled. 2. Go to church, get involved in a youth group. Even if you don't consider yourself religious it will give you an good outlook on life and help your social development. I know I was really odd socially until I went to an actual High School. 3. DON'T spend a lot of time on Facebook, Myspace or forums, it will give you a false sense of reality and social behavior. 4. Write down some goal of what you want to do in life and start working towards them. You can learn a trade, get the highest score on your favorite game, get wicked good at juggling, you have all the time in the world! You just need to ask yourself what do YOU want to do.

About Can someone compare living in Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Denver

Can someone compare living in Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Denver?
I absolutely love Durango, CO. It's small without being tiny, has a young population, and is in the mountains. I want to work in sports however, and there are no sports jobs there. Denver is a sports mecca, but not mountainish enough. How close is it to the mountains? What about Boulder or Colorado Springs compared to Durango, CO?

I live in a suburb of Denver. Denver is close to the mountains. 20-30 minutes to the foothills. Colo springs is nice, I lived there as a kid. Things seem to be cheaper there than in denver (houses, gas, etc). Boulder is WAY expensive as far as houses, apartments, etc.
2 :
Boulder, Denver, and CO Springs are all close to the mountains but if you want to work with sports, I suggest you look into Denver or the CU buffs since they have big sports programs that you can start out with.
3 :
Colorado Springs is a mid sized town with some very nice areas and near the mountains. Its a very conservative town with an older and high military population. Won't be as much opportunity for a sports job with only a few colleges in the city. Great place to raise a family(I was raised there) but for young professionals I think Denver is much better in my opinion. Boulder is very close to the mountains and a very lively and young crowd. It is also somewhat expensive to live there due to the lack of space. There are nice areas in West Denver that are close to the mountains and still a short drive to Downtown, Boulder, etc. Golden, Lakewood, Littleton, Evergreen are all on the west side near the mountains. Here is a little more info on each town, good luck!
4 :
Boulder is indeed expensive, but you might have luck getting work there due to the University presence. Colorado Springs might have some hidden opportunities as well, due to the military bases. One of our friends has a great job at Fort Carson teaching climbing and kayaking on base. The bases are like cities in themselves, so maybe check out those websites. Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, and the US Air Force Academy. Maybe they're looking for people in your field? A government job can be good money. Both cities are incredibly beautiful, but I prefer the mountains and foothills in Colorado Springs over the Flatirons in Boulder. :)

What are nice areas around Colorado Springs/Peterson Air Force Base?
My husband and I will be moving to Colorado Springs in March/April. My husband will be working at Peterson Air Force Base, so we're looking at about a 10-15 mile radius from that location. What are the nice areas/neighborhoods? Low crime rate, little to no poverty is what I'm looking for. Zip codes and town names would be greatly appreciated! I'm not looking for good schools or anything, it's just my husband, dog and me. Thank you so much. Also, what are areas/neighborhoods near Peterson AFB to avoid completely?

First, congrats to moving one of the most beautiful cities in U.S. Colorado Springs was nominated as #1 city with mid-size city about 3 years ago... If he's working at Peterson, the 1st choice would be Wolf Ranch. It is located to next to the base, and I've heard lots of military family is finding home there.. It's pretty new town, so very clean and nice house and of course low crime area. Especially family with no kids prefer mid size house that could range from 200k. Above that area, there is still developing area called Cordera where a brand new house of famous builder such as Keller and Classic homes are being located. If you want a bit settled and bigger house (not always necessary but they do have choices), then defiitely go up to Pine Creek area. The zipcode is 80920. But all of above areas are within Academy School District 20, which has great school system in the town.

Avoid complexes in east-central part of town...around Pikes Peak and Murray and Fountain and Chelton...2 areas with lots of apartment complexes, but lots of crime. The very northern part of town is very nice, but expensive. East side of town, nice, some parts expensive. South of town, in suburbs of Security and Widefield, rents are less, areas average to nice. You will LOVE Colorado Springs. Hope things work out well for you.

Do not give anyone your SSN there are lots of sites out there that are legit and they do not need this info from you. Nor do you have to pay to join. I am a member of several. I have done survey savy which has a great referral program if you know people who will join you get money for surveys they complete also. I have also tried American Consumer Opinion. They pay by check in mail for all surveys, but I have not been able to complete many of their surveys. Pinecone is also great. You have to have an invitation to join though. They send one or two surveys a month. They are great though cause you will have a few days or a week to answer the survey if you don't check your email religiously. Then they send a check in the mail pronto. Surveyspot has tons of really short surveys most of which you only get an entry into a drawing. However they do have many paid surveys also. You can just go to their site everyday and answer surveys you don't have to wait for them to be emailed to you. They do some previewing of tv commercials and tv shows. I have done a couple tv shows which involved watching an hour long program (45 minutes without commercials) and answering some questions about it - with payment of $20 so that was nice. Most pay a few dollars per survey completed so it is best to use several. You also need to be a regular email checker because if you don't respond to the survey fast enough they have met their quota. I save the money til the end of year to help with xmas expenses. If you would like to give me a referral credit use the link in my profile for survey savvy and the other sites I use are listed there as well. Good Luck!

About What are some nice communities around Colorado Springs

What are some nice communities around Colorado Springs?
My family and I want to move to Colorado Springs, and I was wondering what are any suburb towns around that area that are close enough to drive into the city for work and that may be a little less expensive to live in, I am not really used to driving in snow so I don't want to live too far outside of town, or on any bad mountain roads. Also what are the areas of Colorado Springs that are nicer to live in and visit. I am moving from a town that has a pretty high crime rate so I am kind of tired of dealing with scumbags (at least in high numbers) thanks for any help. also we are looking into apartments for the first couple of months of living there, so what are some nice apartments that allow dogs over 40 lbs. and that are around the 700 or less price range. in a good area.

Except for downtown ,Colorado springs is mostly all suburbs, it sprawls out. Search Colorado Springs on Google Maps and you'll see what I mean. The area is mostly pretty flat, no mtn. roads unless you go west of the interstate. You already got answers about the winters on a previous ?

East of Powers Blvd. (one of the main "drags") is FULL of new homes, generally on the less expensive side. There really aren't any surrounding areas, as most of the surrounding areas are STILL Colorado Springs. Fountain/Security is quite a bit less expensive than living in the Springs, but that wouldn't be my first choice for a neighborhood (older, slightly higher crime rate). We rarely get so much snow that it is difficult to drive in. Getting out of your neighborhood is generally the most difficult! The climate is mild, very dry and with an altitude of 6,000 feet + takes some getting used to at first. Get a good real estate agent, visit for longer than a couple of days and get a feel for the different neighborhoods here. There is a HUGE variety, from downtown to Manitou Springs to "out east". Good luck!

I guess it depends on why you are moving here. Fountain is less expensive and parts of it are nice but parts really aren't. The old North end of town, near UCCS, is inexpensive with good interstate access. If you live on the new north side you will spend hours in traffic!

There are none. I am from COS and there isn't enough water to go around for us that are here. Please stay where you are at. The neighborhoods in COS are all not good, because you will be taking up some of my badly needed water.

I don't mean to discourage you but ... Get yourself a map of C Springs and follow these instructions: Do not buy or rent beyond the area enclosed by these streets: East of Circle Drive West of I-25 South of Platte Avenue North is pretty much open. Now, there are pockets of nice neighborhoods outside this square but you have to do some research. Many new developments have become instant slums, esp. to the east and south of the city. Interesting, I don't know HOW you're going to avoid hills during the winter. The entire city is hills, bluffs, and mesas. Snow is actually pretty rare here, but when we get it, we generally get WACKED. Other than dealing with people and the traffic and the cone-zones, you have to watch for the areas that are susceptible to flash flooding, landslides, or coal mine collapse. Water availability is dicey, we just got off water restrictions (we are high desert) that should have continued through the next five summers. Our city council and utilities are a flaky bunch where that's concerned. Well, heck, they're flaky with EVERY concern. Get online to the Independent and read some of the back issues, it'll give you a fair idea of the attitudes of the sane people that live here. They've toned down from their "shake everything up" beginnings tho': http://www.csindy.com/csindy/current/ Also the Citizen's Project: http://www.citizensproject.org/ I'd give you the link to the city daily, The Gazette. But they're quite the conservative rag. The joke is they're owned by Focus on the Family. Real Estate, whether you're buying or renting, is prohibitively expensive. We have one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country. Jobs are generally low paying. Our saying is "YOU pay for the view." Speaking for myself, I live in the foothills and come down into C Springs as little a humanly possible. But that'd be same no matter where I lived.

First, congrats to moving one of the most beautiful cities in U.S. Colorado Springs was nominated as #1 city with mid-size city about 3 years ago... If you prefer new town with medium to high income area, the 1st choice would be Wolf Ranch. It is located to next to the Peterson Air force base, and I've heard lots of military family is finding home there.. It's pretty new town, so very clean and nice house and of course low crime area. Especially family with no kids prefer mid size house that could range from 200k. Above that area, there is still developing area called Cordera where a brand new house of famous builder such as Keller and Classic homes are being located. If you want a bit settled and bigger house (not always necessary but they do have choices), then definitely go up to Pine Creek area. The zip code is 80920. But all of above areas are within Academy School District 20, which has great school system in the town. For the school list of District 20, go to www.asd20.org. Good luck!

There aren't necessarily "bad" neighborhoods in Colorado Springs, just different. Ages of homes range from over 100 years to brand new. On the north end of town (above Woodmen Rd), you'll generally find newer homes, in school district 20 which is very well regarded. The east side of town (east of Powers Blvd.) is generally newer, the neighborhoods are packed in tighter, but has great accessibility to shops and restaurants. Pine Creek is very nice, but more expensive than other neighborhoods surrounding it. It also has a very strict homeowners association which many of my friends find borderline offensive. School District 20 is the way to go. District 11 is the largest, but is having many funding problems currently and District 49 (in the east area of town) is not as well regarded. Good luck in your move! It's a beautiful place to live.

About Is Colorado Springs a good place to raise a family

Is Colorado Springs a good place to raise a family?
I live in the Chicago area and I am sick of the scene. It's loud, expensive and crime ridden. I want to move to a place where I can raise my family in a decent area and afford it. I am in love with Colorado Springs, However I wanted to hear from current or former residents as to how it really is. I would be able to transfer my job, my husband would have to find new work. He is in security management as well as great with computers.Any thoughts?

I lived in the Springs for seven years. Colorado Springs is ultra-conservative. It has MANY military families because of Petersen AFB and Fort Carson. It is home to Focus on the Family and many other Christian ministries. It is approximately 80-85% Republican. If that's your cup of tea, then you'll love it. If you're a Democrat, you'll hate it. If you want a similar sort of place that's more balanced, go for Denver; if you want a place that's heavily Democratic, go to Boulder. Fort Collins, north of Denver, is a very nice place to live; it's a university town, and also tends toward the middle of the road, politically speaking. Pueblo is 2000 feet lower in elevation, and has a large and active Hispanic population. Most of the tech jobs are in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins. Most of the jobs in Colorado Springs center around the military; many require a security clearance, and many others simply aren't available to civilians.

it is definetly a millitary area. I think it depends where you want to live in colorado springs. If you want to live up in the little gated communities, i'ts great. If you want to live where the houses aren't the sizes of 11 football feilds, then it probably isn't that great because there are alot of gangs here. (they just kind of stay in their own areas) BUT one thing I do like about colorado springs is that their school systems are pretty good. and if you are a middle class family, you could probably survive here. good luck!
